On September 01, 2015, the Attorney General Office of Mexico handed over 56 pieces of evidence to our laboratory. Order is given to find out, if these samples contain DNA of the missing persons. Results would contribute to ongoing forensic investigations in Mexico.
In case of positive results, the obtained profiles will be compared to the family reference samples already analysed. Statistical calculations can then show, if a stain contains DNA of a missing family member. Thus, the analyses performed at our institute are state of the art crime scene stain analyses, followed by kinship analyses, as used for paternity testing.
No further issue on the status of the investigation in Innsbruck will be given.
